Special Instructions for Your Thermography Imaging
Please review these instructions before your scheduled thermography appointment to help us capture the most accurate imaging results
Before Your Appointment
Email test results. If you have related imaging or pathology reports (e.g. mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies), please upload/email them before the appointment.
Surgical / treatment history Let us know if you’ve had any surgeries, biopsies, radiation, or other treatments in the area to be imaged. We may require a waiting period after such procedures to ensure accurate imaging.
Sun exposure/tanning Avoid prolonged sun exposure or artificial tanning (especially to the area being imaged) for at least 3-5 days before your imaging. Sunburned or very tanned skin can distort thermal patterns.
Avoid skin irritation. Avoid activities that could irritate your skin, such as shaving, waxing, wearing tight clothing, or anything that leaves marks (scratches, bruising) in the imaging area. Ideally, shave any facial hair a day or two before, but not immediately before the event.
Avoid physical interventions 24 hours before your imaging, avoid chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, massage, electrical muscle stimulation, hot/cold packs, or treatments that may locally heat or cool the skin.
Medication, hormone, and other therapies. If you are undergoing hormone therapy, fertility treatments, or have recently had Botox, laser treatments, etc., inform the clinic. Some protocols suggest waiting certain periods after these before imaging.
Day of Imaging
Clothing & personal care • Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Avoid wearing tight or restrictive clothing that can leave marks.
Remove all jewelry and piercings in areas to be imaged.
Pull back hair so it’s not touching face/neck/shoulders (if those areas are being imaged). Bring hair ties/headbands if needed.
No creams, lotions, perfumes, makeup, deodorants. Do not use any skin or body products (lotion, cream, powder, make-up, oils, deodorants or antiperspirants) on the day of imaging in the areas to be scanned. These products may interfere with the accuracy of the thermal readings.
Temperature & environmental exposure
Avoid hot showers, saunas, steam baths, heating pads, or hot/cold packs within a few hours prior to imaging.
Similarly, avoid being in very cold or very hot environments just before imaging so your skin temperature can equilibrate.
Arrive a little early if needed so your body has time to adjust to room temperature before imaging.
Lifestyle restrictions just before
No vigorous exercise (4 hours or more prior) that could raise skin/body temperature.
No vigorous exercise (4 hours or more prior) that could raise skin/body temperature.
No gum chewing on the day of imaging.
At Your Appointment / During Imaging
At Your Appointment / During Imaging
The imaging is performed in a private examination room.
There will be a waiting period at the start to allow your skin temperature to settle and adapt to the room environment (equilibration).
Appointment Timing
Expect about 20-30 minutes for breast and/or upper body studies.
Full-body health studies often take 35-50 minutes.
Safety & Other Notes
Thermography is non-invasive, radiation-free, and safe during pregnancy or nursing. If you are nursing, we recommend arranging your feeding well before your appointment (e.g., at least one hour prior) so that your breasts are relatively settled.
