Are you experiencing an underactive thyroid?

Our thyroid produces thyroid hormones that influence every cell, tissue, and organ in our bodies. These hormones regulate out metabolism, organ function, heart rate, cholesterol, body weight, energy, muscle contraction, relaxation, skin, and hair texture. It also affects our bowel function, fertility, menstrual regularity, memory, mood, and other bodily processes.

Symptoms related to hypothyroidism:

• Fatigue

• Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight

• Weakness

• Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches

• Extremely dry skin and hair loss

• Irregular menses, heavy menstrual bleeding

• Poor memory, depression, decreased libido, constipation, and slower mental processes

When  the thyroid gland is unable to produce enough thyroid hormones called thyroxine  as seen in  the majority of my patients, they experience thyroid dysfunction. This is usually caused stressors in their life.  When you are stressed the hormone estrogen rises, the cells become resistant to thyroxin and on a cellular level the body is not able to use the thyroxin. These cells become resistant and have to go back to the glands to rebalance. This can cause a depletion in iodine and hence we then experience thyroid disorder.

Do you suffer from Insomnia?

There are many factors that can cause Insomnia. By keeping our endocrine system and nervous system functioning properly we can stop the wakeful hours, the tossing and turning that can hinder a person from losing sleep and waking feeling unrested. Many times, my patients are experiencing an excess of high or low estrogen, low progesterone, hypothyroidism, high and or low testosterone as the culprit and they are not even aware of it. You may not know this, but stressors also play a huge role on our sleep especially GRIEF, SHOCK, and ANGER!

When we wake and start scrolling on our phones, look at a bright screen or read even with small amounts of light this can disrupt the production of melatonin which will prevent our bodies to naturally cool-down and inhibit proper growth of muscle, repair, and complete recuperation of the body.

These are also the hours our liver detox’s. If you find you are waking between the hours of 1-3 a.m. and having a hard time falling back to sleep, this will imply the liver is toxic and needs support. When our sleep is disturbed and we remain awake for hours, our body in return is unable to produce Growth Hormone.

Are you experiencing Estrogen overload?

Did you know that too much estrogen in women cause toxic fat gain, water retention and bloating? Also, breast tenderness, pain or swelling can occur. Another symptom of too much estrogen in women if irregular menstruation. In premenopausal women, it can also cause the pear shaped body where much or the weight stores around the hips.

Here are a list of symptoms linked to estrogen dominance in women;

• An apple shape with much fat in the abdominal area

• Changes to your menstrual cycle

• Hair loss or thinning

• Breast tenderness

• Water retention

• Decreased libido or reduced sex drive

• Changes to your mood

• Reduced energy or fatigue

• Insomnia or a reduction in the quality of your sleep

• Brain fog

• Weight gain

• Infertility

• Fibrocystic breasts

• Uterine fibroids

• Thyroid disease

Environmental toxins, over consumption of alcohol, Synthetic hormones (Contraceptive Pill and Hormone Replacement Therapy), Poor liver function, stress and anxieties and foods high in hormones contribute to excess estrogen in our bodies.
